The University of Stuttgart is a research-intensive university with an interdisciplinary profile and a particular focus on the natural and engineering sciences.
The University of Stuttgart offers a broad range of courses in the engineering sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, languages and cultural sciences, as well as in economics and social sciences. The University of Stuttgart works in close cooperation with Baden-Württemberg universities, including the Universities of Hohenheim, Ulm and Tübingen, as well as with highly renowned research institutions such as the Max Planck and Fraunhofer Societies, the German Aerospace Centre and with numerous other research institutions and industrial companies.
The core competence of the University of Stuttgart is the interdisciplinary integration of its research activities. This is confirmed by the University’s leading position in many areas: it has a cluster of excellence and a graduate school that receive funding through the German government’s Excellence Initiative, collaborative research centres, priority programmes and research training schools as well as integrated and international courses of study.
The research activities of the University of Stuttgart are focused on the following eight interdisciplinary priorities:

- Technology concepts and technology assessment
- Sustainable energy supply and environment

- Integrated product and production design
- The development and technology of sustainable living spaces.
The overall vision behind all the research activities is the comprehensive exploration of the entire product development and product life cycle.
The “Simulation Technology” cluster of excellence and the “Graduate School for Advanced Manufacturing Engineering” at the University of Stuttgart receive funding through the German government’s Excellence Initiative.
