Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences

The Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences was established in 1971 and has three faculties – Engineering, Business and Computer Science, Life Sciences. There are currently around 2500 students enrolled at Albstadt and Sigmaringen, with 50% at each of the two sites. Since its foundation in 1971, Albstadt-Sigmaringen University has concentrated on establishing and maintaining close contacts with local, regional and international companies.

The 18 bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes are adapted to industry requirements; the students have a practical study semester integrated into the course and they also undertake a broad range of project work where they work in companies to acquire practical know-how. Albstadt-Sigmaringen was one of the first Universities of Applied Sciences to adopt the new international bachelor’s and master’s courses. In the winter semester 2009/2010, the bachelor’s degree course in Textile Product Technology – Technical Textiles will be offered for the first time.

Alongside the primary task to fulfil the teaching mission, higher education institutions in Germany are involved in applied research.
In close collaboration with business and service enterprises, professors carry out research projects by dealing with concrete problems encountered in practice.

Moreover, the commitment to conducting applied research is a key element in sharpening the academic profile and forms the basis for a forward-looking academic programme and modern teaching.

Research are done in Steinbeis Technology Transfer Centres and the Institute of Applied Resarch.
