Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tuebingen

Institution / Head office:
Natural and Medical Sciences Institute
Summary:

The NMI conducts cutting-edge applied research and development at the interface of the life sciences and materials sicences. Their core competencies include pharma and biotechnology, biomedical technology, as well as surface and interface technology.

Description:

The NMI is

  • an applied research institute working for companies in the life sciences, biomedical technology and material sciences.
  • is an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
  • a non-profit foundation
  • an institute with strong links to the University of Tübingen
  • an incubator for new companies

Over 150 employees work at the NMI on highly innovative projects. The NMI is rather unusual in that it is a non-hierarchical organization – there is only one level amongst thirteen working groups and just a small administration, ensuring that scientists are free to work as they see fit - without the constraints of bureaucracy. This, together with excellent quality management and first class services in research and development, has impressed partners from industry and research alike. Across Europe, the NMI works together with more than 100 partners.

The NMI has already seen the successful development of ten new companies thanks to partnerships with the NMI. The NMI offers an ideal setting for fledgling companies which need the support of top scientists and excellent business brains.

The NMI is a business-minded research institute affiliated with the University of Tübingen.
This means:

  •  the NMI is economically, legally and administratively independent,  allowing it to operate how it feels best suits the Institute and its clients.
  • the close cooperation with the University of Tübingen is supported by a partnership contract. This contract allows for excellent mutual support between the University and the NMI.

What can the NMI offer?

Our industrial clients receive research and development services from all fields of life science and material science. We treat the clients as our partners with whom we cooperate to find the best, made-to-measure, results.

We are able to carry out entire projects – confidentially, reliably, in a time- and cost-effective way, from the planning phase through to the final evaluation. We can also support companies in part of a larger project, perhaps where the company lacks the expertise, or the time, to carry out a particular part of a given project. Our services include: consulting, technology assessment, application of funds, conception and/or coordination of projects. In addition, as a DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025 accredited institution, the NMI evaluates products to see if they comply with defined standards.

If you think we may be able to help you, contact us and we can discuss your project with you in detail.
