BerkelBike

This product is a hybrid between a recumbent bike and a hand cycle. It was developed for people who are unable to use a normal bicycle, due to a spinal cord injury for example. It is often possible, due to electrical stimulation of the crippled muscles, to actively use the legs again. The Berkelbike can be attached to a wheelchair, making it possible for people to cycle again. By hand biking with your arms, your legs automatically mimic the cycling motion. Every strengths people can this way add to their legs is favourable. They actively train their leg muscles and maximise their health.
In some cases, the Berkelbike had difficulties being connected to the wheelchair. The  FASILIS voucher scheme made it possible for the Frauenhöfer institute (GER) to help and work on a solution.

Bos Medical International BV

This company is specialised in products for the prevention of decubitus, such as mattresses, cushions and gel pads. Hearing of the FASILIS vouchers coincided with the request from the English client who pointed BMI towards Tissue Viability, a well known facility in the UK . For BMI it is an excellent way to work with them with a little less financial risk. They foresee a long term relationship with Tissue Viability as they recently expanded their product range with a complete gel program for the Operating room.
